Investing in the future: Apprenticeships at Event Concept

Event Concept is working with the National College of Creative Industries and Access to Music, giving apprentices the skills they need for a fulfilling career in the events industry.

Event Concept, one of London’s most innovative creative event production agencies, is proud to be launching its Apprenticeship Programme to guide and support passionate people on their journey toward a career in the events industry. In partnership with the National College of Creative Industries and Access to Music, the programme has been designed for participants to learn and develop the skills they need to embark on a fulfilling career as an Event Technician.

The course aims to offer apprentices training across a range of event disciplines, in a constructive and enjoyable environment, while working alongside our talented and experienced staff.  During the apprenticeship, the students will partake in myriad areas of live event production from operation and maintenance of technical equipment to customer service and interpersonal communication with clients and industry professionals.

Upon successful completion of the two-and-a-half-year program, the apprentices will be fully trained and granted their Standard Live Event Technician Level 3 Accreditation. In addition, they will possess a wide range of skills, having gained substantial on-the-job experience, and be in a position to be considered for full-time employment with Event Concept. Managing Director, Adam Stanley has been a major driving force behind the apprenticeship scheme, he comments, “I’m so proud that we’ve launched our apprenticeship scheme. The support and development of new talent is essential for the future of our industry and I’m excited to see our apprentices grow and develop their skills as they shadow our talented team”.

The course is adapted to our needs and to help us get the most out of the scheme.

Event Concept have given me the chance to change my life.

The programme is being overseen by Tom Harrison, Technical Project Manager, as our in-house apprenticeship tutor, working with the apprentices at every stage of their growth and assessment. Tom’s extensive knowledge of the industry and boundless interpersonal skills make him the perfect person to guide the apprentices through the course.  Commenting on the unique advantages of the programme, Tom says, “Whether it’s the venues we’re working in or the kit we are setting up, each event has its own challenges to overcome. As a learning environment, I feel that not only do we teach tremendous troubleshooting skills, but we also teach how to come up with creative ways to solve problems.”

As well as on-the-job technical support, the course consists of 20% theoretical study, giving the apprentices time to learn critical, role-specific knowledge. These off-the-job portions of the course are made up of workshops and one-to-one sessions which can take place online or at a location mutually convenient for the apprentice and the tutor.

On-site opportunities are offered in order to teach me both practical and theoretical skills and knowledge.

Assessment is performed by an external Industry Practitioner who will evaluate the students and aid in their tutelage. To ensure the apprentices receive the support they need, assessment is performed throughout their time on the programme, meaning any areas in which they may be struggling will be identified quickly and extra support will be offered.
